TIRED OF PEOPLE CHANGING YOUR HOMEPAGE?
I have been getting complaints about sites that automatically change your homepage to something else. Beleive me, we have been doing all we can to weed out and ban all the cheating bastards that we know are deliberately doing this. But, we can only do so much. We can't always catch the cheaters all the time and sometimes, these things are even beyond our control. For example, a simple script can be executed while you're surfing a website that can change your homepage without you even knowing it. They can do this by attacking known security holes in Windows Systems and Internet Explorer browsers (Thank Bill Gates for that). You can avoid this from happening to you by getting the latest security patch for Internet Explorer. You can get it here!. ANOTHER WAY TO DO THIS! CHANGE YOUR ACTIVE X SETTINGS. I got this from a friend's website. This is another way for you to avoid having your homepage changed. In Internet Explorer do the following: 1. Click on Tools, then Internet Options 2. Click on Security, then Custom Level 3. Then for all Active X options put PROMPT this will notify you when somebody is trying to change your homepage. HOW ABOUT GETTING RID OF POP-UPS? We know that pop-ups can be annoying. They could ruin an otherwise good surfing experience. This is also a growing problems for us. Our workloads have doubled just so we can minimize your exposure from these annoyances. We have permanently banned webmasters that we know are just out to ruin your fun. We try not to link sites that are known to redirect you to pop-up hell. We have caught several webmasters that are doing this and they can no longer post on Hardcore Junky ever. But there are still cheating webmasters out there and they are getting trickier than ever. So we encourage you to continue reporting offending sites. We can use all the help we can get. There's even more disturbing techniques that unscrupulous webmasters are utilizing to launch random pop-ups when you're online. Again, there are security holes on Windows systems that these bastards can attack. They can illegally install softwares on your computer by taking advantage of these security holes. These sofwares, once intalled on your computer, can launch pop-ups randomly whenever you're online surfing. It's tricky because you may think that it's the website that you are currently viewing that's doing it but infact the sofware that was illegally installed on your system is the culprit. How can you fix this? It's a good idea to get the latest patch for security holes for your systems. Again, you can go to Microsoft's website and search for your system's requirements. Setting your Active X to prompt you can also help avoid this from happening to you. The instructions on how you can do this can be found above. FREE SOFTWARES TO CONTROL POP-UPS You may be able to control the pop-ups from taking over your screen by using the following softwares. 1. Sent in by Michael... A free Pop up Stopper software From PanicWare .. Download Here! Once installed, If you want to open the pop-up windows, you can hold down the CTRL key otherwise, pop-ups are disabled. For Internet Explorer 5 or higher. You can also download this software from this site!. A note from Blade: I installed the Pop-up stopper on my computer and it works great. I no longer get multiple pop-ups. I do get one pop-up here and there but that's nothing compare to the hasle of having to reboot my computer or my browser. I suggest that you set the settings to make a sound so that you know when a page has pop-ups. This way you can have a choice of whether you want to open it or not. Like I said, not all pop-ups are bad. Another thing, you must press the CTRL button in order to open up links from your email. I also noticed that opening up a separate window is considered a pop-up by the software. Again, you must press the CTRL key first and then hold it down while you click on the link or open a new browser window. For example, our "report the bad links" page opens up on a separated window, this is considered a pop-up by the software and will not open. To open it now, you must hold the CTRL key down and click and the link to open up the page. 2. Sent in by Molavian .. Another pop-up controller software called Pop Up Killer. 3. Sent in by Byron.. This is not a software but a tip for Mozilla/Netscape browser on how to control popups. Click here for instruction. It's a little complicated for me since I don't use Netscape anymore.. but I thought some of you may actually find this helpful. 4. Sent by Michael.. It will scan your registry and hard drives for the things called "spyware", software that reports to other people what you are looking at on the Internet, including cookies. It's called Ad Aware Here's a couple of links from our friend's websites that can give you more information on how you can resolve your system's security issues. TIPS FROM JJJ's TIPS FROM SEX APE If you have any tips on how to protect your systems from being hacked or fucked with, please send me an email and I'll add them here. Thanks!
